Arthur L. Ratajczak, 57, of 203 N. Burbank, died unexpectedly at 11:57 a.m. Monday, of an apparent heart, while working at Memorial Hospital, where he had been employed the last five years. He was formerly employed at St. Joseph's Medical Center for 21 years, and at Singer Corp. Born on Jan. 29, 1926, in South Bend, he was a lifetime area resident. On Oct. 14, 1950, he married Rose M. Gember, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Sandra) Ringler of Niles, Mich.,Miss Teresa Ratajczak, at home; two sons, Dennis and Lorence, both of South Bend; two sisters, Mrs. Helen Zawierucha and Mrs. Patricia Miller, both of South Bend; and two brothers, Peter and Benjamin, both of South Bend.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Hedwig's Catholic Church, with Rev. Matthew Sienkiewicz, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Kaniewski and Sons Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. He was a member and senior vice commander for VFW Post 9820, a member of Pulaski Post 357 American Legion, Chain of Lakes Conversation Club, and a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army.
