On Oct. 27, 1908, Rev. Val Czyzewski, pastor of St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana, married Constantine Grzelak and Mary Jankowski. The applications that Constantine and Mary filed with the county include the following information: Constantine, a blacksmith in South Bend, was born Mar. 11, 1885 in Russian Poland to Joseph & Barbara Grzelak. Mary, a resident of South Bend, was born Nov. 9, 1884 in South Bend to Martin & Catherine Kus Jankowski. It was the first marriage for both of them. At the time of the 1910 census of South Bend, Constantine Grzelak, a blacksmith at a plow works, born in Russian Poland, had immigrated in 1902. He and his wife, Mary who had been born in Indiana, had been married one year, and she had had one child, Rufina.
Konstanty Grzelak died in 1916:
South Bend Tribune, Wed. April 26, 1916, p. 5:
"Konspanty (sic) Grzelak, age 31 years, died Monday evenlng at the Healthwin hospital following one year's illness with tuberculosis. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maty (sic) Grzelak, 811 West Napier street, two daughters, Rufina and Bofina (sic*), both residing at home and two brothers, George, of South Bend, and Andrew, of Detroit, Mich. He was born in Germany March 16, 1885 and came to the United States 20 years ago.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock from St. Hedwige's church. Rev. A. Zubowicz will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Grove cemetery."

His date and place of death are given in his Indiana death certificate for which his wife Mary was the informant. She reported that he had been an employee at a plow factory. It was her understanding that he had been born March 16, 1885 in Poland to Joseph & Barbara (Jachimiak**) Grzelak.
**According to Polish marriage records, as transcribed in the Poznan Marriage Indexing Project, Barbara's maiden name was Joachimczak.
On January 23, 1917, Rev. M. Miklaszewski, a pastor of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, married Mary Grzelak and Wladyslaw Lepkowski in St. Joseph Co., Indiana. It was Mary's second marriage, her first having ended in death in 1916. It was Wladyslaw's first marriage. (images of original marriage record, familysearch.org)
The 1920 census record of South Bend of the household of Walter & Mary Lepkowski includes two children born before Konstanty Grzelak's death in 1916: Ruth and Sophia.
