MISHAWAKA, IN - Anton Adam Sakara, 99, residing in Mishawaka, passed away at 5:00 am Sunday, November 25, 2018 in his home. He was born November 8, 1919 in South Bend to the late Stephen Sakara and Mary (Bukasics) Kavacsies. In addition to his parents, Anton was preceded in death by his stepfather, Anton Kevacsics; brothers, Emery, Stephen, and Louis Sakara; and sisters, Mary (Leo) Pasman and Ann (John) Toppel. After high school, Anton served his country honorably in the United States Air Force as a Corporal until his discharge on October 25, 1945. He was employed at Studebaker and Curtis Wright before retiring from South Bend Lathe on June 28, 1985 after 26 years of service as a quality control inspector. On September 27, 1947 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in South Bend, Anton married the former Evelyn Joan Kotal, who survives. In addition to his loving wife of 71 years, Anton is survived by three children, Carol Ann (Clyde) Burchette of San Diego, CA, Anthony (Susan) Sakara of Niles, MI, and Norm (Tatiana) Sakara, also of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren, Steven and David Sakara; and two step-grandchildren; as well as nieces in Arizona, nephews in Minnesota, a cousin in Caledonia, MI, and many relatives in Hungary. The Sakaras lived many years on Rockne Drive in South Bend. They were members of the German Club and Hungarian Club. Mass of Christian Burial for Anton will be celebrated at 11:00 am Saturday, December 1, 2018 at St. Therese, Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N. Ironwood Road, South Bend, IN. Graveside Military Honors and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 - 11:00 am Saturday at the church prior to Mass.
