Elsie M (Mostaert) Boenne
October 10, 1922 ~ December 21, 2020 (age 98)
Elsie M. Boenne, 98, of Mishawaka, passed away on Monday, December 21. Elsie was born on October 10, 1922, in Mishawaka to Emiel P. and Maggie (Veraet) Mostaert. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and her brother, Henry. On February 5, 1944, she married the love of her life, John C. Boenne. They spent over 68 years together until John passed away in 2012. She missed him dearly; without a doubt, he greeted her at heaven gates with open arms. Elsie was a homemaker with two young sons to care for while John served in the United States Army during WWII. She also worked at the Ball Band in Mishawaka and at the West End Bakery where she retired. Elsie was proud of her Belgium heritage and served as an officer on the ladies auxiliary of the BK Club. Elsie was loving, spunky, and unapologetically opinionated; she was the rock and matriarch of the family. She enthusiastically loved to tell anyone who would listen about her family. Her legacy and strong spirit will live on in her two sons, Thomas (Lynn) Boenne of Arkansas, formally Dyer, Indiana, and Terry (Penny) Boenne of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Michael (Tammy) Boenne of Arkansas, Tracy (Daniel) Skibins of Granger, Suzy (Ron) Hubbard of Arkansas and Jon (Angela) Boenne of Osceola; great-grandchildren, Damon and Brooklyn Boenne, Mia and Lana Skibins, Samantha (daughter Jena) and Payton Hubbard, Braxton Boenne; and a nephew, Tim (Joyce Boenne) and niece, Lynn Mostaert. Elsie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her dear friends and extended family for all of their love and support throughout the years. You are truly a blessing. Due to current health and safety concerns, a private family funeral will take place Monday, December 28, 2020, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, IN with Reverend Jim Bracke officiating. Elsie will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. A Celebration of Life will be held in May 2021 to celebrate Elsie. Elsie was a huge lover of animals, especially her adored cat and companion, Sadie. Memorial contributions can be made to South Bend Animal Resource Center, 521 Eclipse Pl., South Bend, IN 46628, or to The Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
