[N16275] Isabelle M. Matyas
Oct. 17, 1925 - May 9, 2006

Isabelle Mae Izzy Matyas, 80, residing in South Bend, passed away at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in Hospice House, South Bend, after a courageous six-year battle with cancer. She was born October 17, 1925, in Ashland, Wisconsin, to Milo and Pearl (Duecette) Taylor, and had lived in South Bend since 1977, coming from Milwaukee, WI. Isabelle worked at an atom bomb plant in Seattle, Washington, during WWII. She also worked as a secretary at Tuckaway Country Club in Franklin, WI. But her most important job was that of wife and mother. She lived her life for her family. She met her husband Eddie in 1946 and married him six weeks later. They celebrated their 59th anniversary on February 10, 2006. From that union they had five children, Gary E. Matyas, who preceded her in death in 1976, Nancy A. (John) Panos of Granger, Mark D. Matyas of South Bend, Wendy S. (Peter) Micca of Rochester, NY, and Stacy J. (Orville) Kronewitter of South Bend. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Rainey, Christina Micca, Tommy, Matthew and Chelsea Kronewitter, Mark and Omar Matyas; two great-grandchildren, Evan Rainey and Madison Matyas, and a new baby boy due in June. A sister, Marjorie Ryback of Sturgeon Bay, WI, a brother, Robert Taylor of Iron River, WI, and a sister-in-law, Del Taylor of Oconto, WI, survive Izzy as well. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Taylor. Izzy enjoyed bingo, bowling, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, watching the soaps, playing slots, going to garage sales, and playing cards with family and friends. She bowled with The Golden Gang at Chippewa Bowl for at least 20 years as well as with her daughters. She was never late for an appointment and kept her most important one when she met her Savior. The family wishes to thank her physician, Dr. Michael Method, and oncology staff at Saint Joseph Medical Center in South Bend. Dr. Method always made her feel like she was his only patient. Her family was her everything and she was everything to her family. Izzy was Ed's best friend. She will remain in our hearts forever. Memorial services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Cremation will occur at Southlawn Cremation Services, and burial will follow at Woods National Cemetery, Milwaukee, WI. The family will receive friends after 4:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
