MISHAWAKA - Gerald U. Michels, 91, of Countryside Place, died at 1:45 a.m. Sunday in the nursing home of natural causes. Mr. Michels retired in 1965 from Uniroyal Plastics Co. He was born Aug. 11, 1902, in Mishawaka and was a lifelong area resident. On Oct. 1, 1923, in South Bend, he married Marian Dubala. She died in 1979. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia A. Michels of Arlington, Wash., and Mary Ann Demske of Mishawaka; a son, Frank J. of Mishawaka; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a stepsister, Margaret Hillebrand of Mishawaka; and a brother, J.J. of Mishawaka. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a charter member of United Rubber Workers Local 65.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to National Association for the Blind.
