Frank Jurkaites
August 26, 1952 ~ July 25, 2022 (age 69)
Frank Jurkaites, of South Bend, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022 due to complications from a stroke at the age of 69 with his family by his side. He was born on August 26, 1952 in South Bend to the late James and Margaret (Papp) Jurkaites and remained a lifelong resident of the area. Frank graduated from Marian High School and went on to become a Union Plumber/Pipefitter in Local 172. He spent years working tirelessly on projects in and around the community. Frank was a proud Union member for 40 years and upheld the Union beliefs in his daily life. On May 26, 1973 at St. Matthew Cathedral in South Bend he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Kathleen Gorman, who survives. Along with his wife of 49 years, Frank is survived by his son, Chris (Michele) Jurkaites and daughter, Colleen (Brad) Shook; 5 grandchildren, Cassidy, Makenna, Mason, Max, Miles and his sister Patricia Karkiewicz and her children, Kim Karkiewicz and Jeff (Betty) Karkiewicz. Also surviving was his sister-in-law, Barbara (Greg) Schuler, niece, Megan (Marcos) Cordoba, their children, Julian and Lucia, niece, Maureen (Taylor) Leverty and their son, Lincoln. Brother-in-law, Jeff (Diane) Gorman and their children, Molly and Kelly. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Jurkaites. Frank was an incredibly loyal and generous man, who spent his life caring for his family and friends. A weekly tradition he treasured was visiting with his lifelong friends at their Breakfast Club. He would do anything he could for those he loved. Devoted to his family, he relished in being intimately involved in the daily lives of his children and grandchildren. Whether it was giving kids rides to school or watching them participate in various sporting events, Frank loved nothing more than being with his family. He was always there with a kind phone call or a loving hand. He lived his best life after retirement, spending time with family, listening to music, and doing the simple things in life he enjoyed. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2022 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 19704 Johnson Rd, South Bend, IN 46614. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. Graveside service and burial will immediately follow at Southlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Frank’s honor to Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation Matching Gifts, 733 Third Avenue Ste. 510 New York, NY 10017.
