Addie M. “Herman” (Young) Guzowski, age 91, of South Bend passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2017. Addie served our country as a Rosie the Riveter during World War II, at the young age of 16, at Bud Wheel in Detroit, MI. She also worked at St. Mary’s College as leader of Holy Cross Hall’s housekeeping department. She was known for the best breakroom on campus, hosting parties, which included delicious meals she had cooked herself. Addie’s passions were her family; she loved cooking for them, family dinners, and time spent with her children and grandchildren at their various lake cottages. She also had a deep love of flowers. Addie was born on March 8, 1926 in Waterloo, AL to Ernest and Edna (Holcomb) Young, who precede her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband Daniel Guzowski, who she said was “the love of her life” and who passed away November 14, 2013. They married in South Bend on Feburary 17, 1962. Addie is survived by her daughters Mary (Don) Dabrowiak of Kingston Springs, TN, Grace (Rick) Nogle of South Bend, Glenda Frederick of South Bend, and Pam Kolozsvary of South Bend; sons Peter (Kathy) Herman of Granger, IN, Chuck Herman of South Bend, Greg Guzowski of South Bend, and Terry Guzowski of South Bend; she’d also finished raising one grandson Charlie (Mona) Herman; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and sisters Mary Bricker and Sally Kraft, both of Mishawaka, IN. Friends may visit with Addie’s family on Sunday, November 5, 2017 from 4:00-7:00PM at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615. A funeral service for Addie will be held Monday, November 6, 2017 at 11:00AM at Palmer Funeral Home River Park with burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may also visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in honor of Addie’s life may be given to Heart to Heart Hospice, 620 W.
