Maria F. Cukrowicz
Jan. 18, 1947 - May. 18, 2021
SOUTH BEND - Maria F. Cukrowicz of Yuma, AZ (born Del Rio, TX) went to be with Our Lord on Tuesday May 18th, 2021. After a brief illness, she passed away in her home with close family at her side. After decades living, working and raising her family in South Bend, Indiana (1969-2000), Maria moved to Yuma, AZ where she finally retired after years of driving school bus for Yuma School District 1. She enjoyed her retirement caring for her family and grandchildren. Maria is preceded in death by her parents Jesus D. and Catarina E. Felan (of South Bend, IN), her 3 brothers; Mario A. Felan Sr, Juan Felan Sr, David Felan (all of South Bend, IN), two husbands; Fred Rice (South Bend) and Lee R. Cukrowicz (South Bend) and one daughter Cynthia Gomez (Adalberto) from South Bend. She is survived by her favorite uncle, Hector Espinoza, sisters; Cecilia Crandall (Tim), Rebecca Garcia (Raymond), Mary A Felan, Mary H. Perez, and one brother Richard Felan (Roseann) all from South Bend, IN. Her surviving children include Fred R. Jimenez, Jr. (Cathy), of New Carlisle, IN, Sandra Watson (David) of TX, Blanca Cole (Kevin) of Yuma, AZ, and Belinda Nicholls of Mishawaka, IN. Maria loved and enjoyed her 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews that all loved her dearly. Maria was an exceptional person with a huge heart. Her personality lit up the room when she walked in. She enjoyed talking to people wherever she went. She loved music, dancing and most importantly, spending time with family. Maria was adored by all and will be greatly missed. She made sure each of us knew how loved we were and did not want us to grieve in her death but rejoice in her life. A celebration of Maria's life will take place May 14, 2022, in Yuma, AZ. Until we meet again, Mama, we love you. Published in South Bend Tribune on May 27, 2021.
