SOUTH BEND - Bert C. Lekarczyk, 82, passed away October 9th at home surrounded by family. On September 15, 1956, he married the love of his life, Muriel "Joy" (Rehlander) Lekarczyk, who preceded him in death. Bert was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother and friend. He loved spending time with family and friends. Bert proudly served our country in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion. He retired from Gibbs Wire and Steel after 18 years. He was a Chicago Cubs, Bears and Notre Dame fan. Bert was an avid bowler and dog lover, especially his dog Lucy. Bert is survived by his children, Bert A. Lekarczyk of South Bend, Linda L. Wilson of Morganton, NC, Debbie J. Lekarczyk of Noblesville, IN, Lori (Mark) Galyean of Westfield, IN, and Greg R. Lekarczyk of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Brad, Nicole, Matt, Carrianne, Katie, Zach, Ty, Madison and Brayden; one great-grandchild, Locklynn; and sister, Joyce (Walt) Jastrebski of South Bend. Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Carrie Lekarczyk; his loving wife, Muriel Lekarczyk; and his two brothers, Eugene and Raymond Lekarczyk. Memorial services for Bert will be 12 noon Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at Palmer Funeral Home River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, with two hours of visitation prior.
