Lawrence N. Blacharski
April 27, 1933 - March 5, 2018
MISHAWAKA - Lawrence N. Blacharski, 84, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his family. Mr. Blacharski was born April 27, 1933 in South Bend, IN to the late Walter C. and Mary (Wojciechowski) Blacharski. On May 9, 1953, Larry was wed to Mary Katherine Martino at Sacred Heart in Lakeville. Together, Larry and Mary celebrated 60 years of marriage until her passing on August 1, 2013. Mr. Blacharski proudly served his country as an active duty member of the United States Army from August 25, 1953 until June 7, 1955 and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve. He received a Good Conduct Medal as well as a National Defense Service Medal. Larry retired as a machinist from PHD, Inc. in Fort Wayne. He was a charter member of Queen of Peace Church in Mishawaka, member of the Knights of Columbus, and a Boy Scout Leader. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the lake, traveling with his wife in their RV, and tinkering in the garage with his pal and nephew, Mike Hochstetler. Larry is survived by his sons, Lawrence (Nickki) Blacharski, Jr. of Henderson, NV, David Blacharski of Lakeville, IN, and Mark (Julie) Blacharski of Riverview, FL; grandchildren, Greg (Heather) Horein of Goshen, IN, Danielle (Michael) Penick of Raleigh, NC, Kristen (Matthew) Vernoy also of Raleigh, NC, Mary (Tom) Kramer of South Bend, IN, Stephen Blacharski of Mishawaka, IN, Jason Blacharski of Lakeville, IN, Anthony "Tony" (Elaine) Blacharski of Colorado Springs, CO, Christopher Blacharski of Clearwater, FL, Theresa Blacharski of Brandon, FL, and Amber Blacharski of Denver, CO. Also surviving are his great-grandchildren, Carly, Brady, Justine, Cameron, Taylor, Jaidyn, Olivia B., Brandyn, Ryder, Maya, Isabel, Braden, Mason, Olivia V., and Hannah. In addition to his parents and wife, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Horein; sisters, Henrietta Manning and Dorthea Flemming, and brothers, Walt, Al, Benny, Matt, and Harry Blacharski. Friends may call Thursday, March 8th from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy, Osceola. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 9th at 10:30 am at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens to follow.
