Mitchell C. Strope
Dec. 9, 1956 - Feb. 24, 2009
MISHAWAKA - Mitchell C. Strope, 52, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away of natural causes at 8:47 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Mitchell was born in Mishawaka, Indiana, on December 9, 1956, to Mr. and Mrs. Edgar and Shirley (Coryell) Strope. His parents survive along with his brother, Stephen (Brenda) Strope, and his sister, Peggy (Mike) Barhydt, all of Mishawaka. Mitch is also survived by his special nieces, Jessica Strope of South Bend and Victoria Barhydt of Mishawaka. Calling hours with the Strope family will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, February 28, 2009, in Willow Creek United Methodist Church in Mishawaka. A memorial service will be held in the church at noon, with Rev. Milt Gould officiating. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Mitchell was a graduate of Penn High School, class of 1975. He was employed at Elkhart Products Corporation for 26 years in production, and as the tool crib attendant. In his free time, Mitchell enjoyed the outdoors where he spent time hunting and trapping. Mitch also enjoyed fishing, and had taught himself taxidermy to preserve the fish he would keep. Mitch also enjoyed restoring classic cars, and was the proud owner of a '69 Chevelle. He also enjoyed gardening and giving his raised produce to his co-workers, family and friends. Mitch lived a simple life, but possessed a wealth of talents. The Strope family would like to give thanks to Mitchell's special caregivers: Amber Moon, Alex Baiz and Melodie Hale, along with all those involved who helped Mitch and his family during their time of need. The Strope family would also like to thank The Center for Hospice for Mitchell's care and comfort in his last weeks of life. In his memory, donations may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care or to the Willow Creek U.M.C. Online condolences may be sent to the Strope family at www.chapelhillmemorial.com.
