SOUTH BEND - Eugene N. Chlebowski, 78, passed away on Thursday September 8, 2016 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born on November 27, 1938, in South Bend, to the late Norbert and Alice (Smigielski) Chlebowski. On May 7, 1960 he married Stella Slaby, who survives. Also surviving are his three sons, Scott (Traci) of South Bend, Kevin (Rusti) of North Liberty and Paul of South Bend; six grandchildren, Ashley, Taylor, Abigail, Meghann, Hannah and Emily; one great-grandchild, Layla; two sisters, Nancy (Richard) Fenimore of Mishawaka, IN and Pat (Jesse) Moreno of South Bend; and by a brother, Dale of South Bend. Eugene worked as a Truck Driver for Great Lakes Distributing until retiring in 1995. He was a United States Army Veteran, member of the American Legion Post #297, New Carlisle, St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church and the Crumstown Conservation Club. Eugene had many friends whom he considered to be his sons and his favorite team was anyone playing Notre Dame. He had many funny sayings, including “if you're gonna be stupid, you gotta be tough” and “you gotta keep moving or they will throw dirt on ya.” Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday September 16, 2016 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday September 17, 2016 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 55756 Tulip Rd. New Carlisle, IN.
