SOUTH BEND - George M. Bagarus, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away peacefully at 2:50 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2011 at his home. He was 84 years old. He was born June 26, 1926 in South Bend, a son of George F. & Barbara (Kertesz) Bagarus. On September 14, 1957 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, South Bend, he was united in marriage to Dorothy J. Jeziorski. He is survived by Dorothy, his loving wife of 53 years, along with three sons, Bryan Bagaraus of Bethlehem, PA; Chris Bagarus of Canton, OH; and Keith (Joanne) Bagarus of Hudson, OH. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Hope, Claire, and Audrey, and a sister, Betty Danowski of Indianapolis, IN. George was preceded in death by four sisters, Helen Bloom, Mary Heyde, Sister Constance "Ann" Bagarus, Gisella Squadroni, and two brothers, George & Louis Bagarus. Mr. Bagarus retired in 1996 as a Production Manager for the Dana Corp. following 30 years of service. He was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, served as an Usher for the University of Notre Dame football games for 28 years, and played fast-pitch softball for American Legion Pulaski Post #357. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, where visitation will occur one hour prior to Mass. Cremation will follow, and interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, where a parish rosary will be said at 4:00 p.m. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Jeannine, Ben and staff, and Judy, Alta, and the staff at Amedisys Home Health Care for all their wonderful care offered to George during his illness. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons, Bryan Bagarus of Bethlehem, PA, Chris Bagarus of Canton, OH, and Keith (Joanne) Bagarus of Hudson, OH; sister, Betty Danowski of Indianapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Friends may visit from 4-7 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, where a Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m., as well as one hour prior to services in church on Monday.
