SOUTH BEND - Chris B. Switalski, 53, of South Bend, IN, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, July 26, 2008. Chris was born on September 15, 1954, in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. He retired in 2004 from the South Bend Fire Department where he was employed as a firefighter for 29 years. On November 24, 1973, in St. John the Baptist Church, he married Christine M. Tepe, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Pamela (David) LaCluyse of Mishawaka, IN, Catherine (Adin) McCann of Charlotte, NC, and Tracy (Andrew) VanSchoick of Granger, IN; one grandson, Kyle LaCluyse; his parents, Bernard and Angela Switalski of South Bend, IN; and by two brothers, Timothy (Teri) Switalski of Anacortes, WA, and David Switalski of South Bend, IN. Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Bernice and Walter Wojciechowski; and his paternal grandparents, Tillie and Eligius Switalski. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 31, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Chris was a 1973 graduate of the former LaSalle High School. He enjoyed boating on Lake Michigan with family and friends, and spending summers at Sister Lakes, MI.
