Thomas Wayne Held, 67, of Niles, MI died Monday, February 10th in his residence following an illness. Tom was born August 20, 1946 in South Bend to Dorothy G. (Subczak) and the late Richard W. Held and was a lifetime Michiana area resident. On September 30, 1967 he married Maria Joan “Cookie” Simon who preceded him in death July 7, 1998. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jayson David Held in 1975. He is survived by a son, Christopher A. Held (Patty) of Niles; two granddaughters, Danielle Overholt (Jon) and Devin Julian (David); two great-grandchildren, Peyton M.T. Julian and Sadie M. Overholt; his mother, Dorothy G. Sobieski of South Bend; and his sister, Betty Held of Niles.Tom was a 1964 graduate of the former South Bend Central High School. He was a long time active member of the former American Turners in South Bend and was an avid University of Notre Dame fan.Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 14th in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd. Committal services and burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday in the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
