Richard D. Klipich, 71, of South Scott Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, in his residence. Mr. Klipich retired from the United States Postal Service where he was a letter carrier and supervisor. He was born on March 26, 1927 in South Bend to Stephen and Mary Klipich. He was preceded in death by his father. On Oct. 30, 1948 in South Bend, he married Constance Taberski, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Mary Klipich Grubesich of South Bend; a daughter, Susan (Bill) Dominiak of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; two sons, Richard Klipich, Jr., of Tavares, Fla. and Steven Klipich of South Bend; three grandchildren, Daniel Klipich of South Bend, Beau Dominiak of Ponte Vedra Beach, and Coleman Dominiak of Media, Pa.; and by a brother, George Klipich of South Bend. Mr. Klipich was a World War II Navy Veteran and his memberships included the National Association of Retired Letter Carriers, the St. Joseph Young Men's Society, American Legion Post 357, and the Michiana Golf Course Superintendents Association. He was active in the Indiana High School Athletic Association and officiated the 1978 Indiana High School Baseball Championship. He was also active with the St. Joseph Athletic Officials Association. Mr. Klipich officiated events for the Catholic elementary schools and the Indiana High School Association in baseball, basketball, football and wrestling. All his life he loved sports. He especially liked to spend winters in Florida playing golf. After his retirement from the Post Office, he was employed at Erskine and Whispering Pines Golf Courses. He organized a golf tournament which was played on Labor Day weekend for the past 10 years at Whispering Pines Golf Course. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Military services will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today in Zahoran Funeral home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. by the St. Ann Society and the Sacred Heart & Rosary Society. Memorial contributions may be made to the Our Lady of Hungary Church Repair Fund.
