According to the 1900 census of South Bend, Indiana, Valentine (aka Walenty) Rybarkiewicz, an iron moulder, and his wife, Agnes, had both been born in Poland, had been married 30 years, had immigrated in 1881, and she had had eleven children of whom seven were living. Six of their children were living at home in 1900 (in birth order): Frank (aka Franciszek), Joseph (aka Jozef), Catherine (aka Katarzyna), Wladyslaw, Anna, and Anastazia (aka Nettie). (Their daughter Mary had married in 1896.)

In 1905, Walenty Rybarkiewicz was struck by a train and died. [St. Hedwig Catholic Church interment records and his Indiana death certificate]

In 1907, their son Wladyslaw died from tuberculosis. In 1910, they lost three more children: Mary Liszewski to tuberculosis, Anna and Frank Rybarkiewicz to consumption. In 1912, two more died: Joseph Rybarkiewicz and Catherine Jendrzejewski, both to consumption. [St. Hedwig Catholic Church interment records and their Indiana death certificates]

In 1917, Agnes died:
From the SOUTH BEND NEWS-TIME, Saturday, June 16, 1917, p. 2:
“Mrs Agnes Rybarkiewicz, 67 years old, died at her home, 456 S. Walnut st., Thursday evening, following a long illness with [a] complication of diseases. Surviving her is one daughter, Mrs. Andrew Orszulak. The funeral will be held Monday morning at St. Hedwige’s church, Rev. A. Zubowicz officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery."
