SOUTH BEND - Robert Dean Comer, 91, of South Bend, IN passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016, at home. Robert was born on April 26, 1925 in Bremen, IN to Harley and Anna Comer. He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Betty (Rosewicz) Comer. He was also preceded in death by one child, Gary Comer and one grandchild, Cheryl Comer. He is survived by his children, Dennis Comer (Diana), John Comer, Bruce Comer (Cathie) and Julie Stogsdill (Kevin). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Robert was a graduate of Mishawaka High School and worked as a tool designer for many years, retiring from Adams Engineering. He enjoyed woodworking which included everything from birdhouses, to jewelry boxes, to miniature furniture which has been enjoyed by his family. He was a collector of all things antique, especially carnival glass and glass paperweights. He served in WWII in the Army Air Corps and was a life member of VFW, Post 360. He was a member of Forestbrook Missionary Church and enjoyed the time he spent with Pastor Ron Drake. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Smith's Chapel, 29858 Redfield Street, Niles, MI with Rev. Ron Drake officiating. Burial will follow at Smith's Chapel Cemetery.
