Mishawaka-Elsie J. De Bruyne, 92, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Elsie was born on June 4, 1922 in Mishawaka as the daughter of Camiel and Cyrilla (Dhuivetter) Bracke. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mark C. De Bruyne and a sister, Jeanette Poelvoorde. On September 21, 1946 in Mishawaka as the former Elsie J. Bracke she married Louis H. De Bruyne. He passed away on December 25, 1993. Surviving are two sons, Gary L. De Bruyne of Libertyville, IL and Dale T. De Bruyne of New Orleans, LA; two grandchildren, Becca and Brianna; great grandson, Cohen and her nieces and nephews, Beth (Tom) Wojciechowki, Sue (Allen) Schlemmer, Elaine (Larry) Holmes, Charles (Peggy) Mahank and Jim (Carolyn) De Bruyne. Elsie was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the BK Club Ladies Auxiliary, Battell Center, TOPS at the Battell Center, 1941 Club, the Hoosieretts and the Mr. and Mrs. Club. Elsie was employed by Ball Band, Dodge Manufacturing and Marian High School. She loved baking bread and chocolate chip cookies and was an avid knitter and was a Boy Scouts Den Mother. She enjoyed dancing with her husband, Louie. Elsie remembered everyone’s birthdays and Anniversaries with a card every year. A special Thank you to her caregiver, A. J. Vinton and to the St. Joseph visiting nurses. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. with a Rosary at 4:30 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, January 19 at 10 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka with Rev. Jim Bracke officiating. Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum, Mishawaka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
