April 24, 1925 - April 12, 2012 SOUTH BEND - Virginia A. "Virgie" Kandzierski, 86, passed away at 2:15 am on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Sterling House Assisted Living. Virginia was born April 24, 1925, to the late John and Florence (Niespodziany) Nakapala. On November 6, 1946, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, Virginia married Stanley Kandzierski, who preceded her in death on November 22, 1989. Virginia was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Nakapala; brothers-in-law, Bert Kandzierski, Leonard Skwarcan, Gene Goralski, George Nemeth and Jerome Golubski; her sister, Adeline Nemeth; and sister-in-law, Theresa Goralski. Virginia is survived by daughter, Judy Kandzierski, and son-in-law, Richard Troutman of Phoeniz, AZ; and son, Robert, and daughter-in-law, Tena Kandzierski of South Bend; grandchildren, Melanie, Andrea, Rebekah, Marci, Kathryn, Deborah, Stephanie and Christopher; four step-grandchildren, Geana, Julie, Virgil and Lhasa; four great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Josephine Golubski and Phyllis Skwarcan; brother-in-law, John Kandzierski, all of South Bend; and by several nieces and nephews. Virginia was the owner for 22 years of Stan's Sport and Bait Shop. She was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. Virginia was also a member of the Polish Business and Professional Organization, P.N.A. Group 83 and former P.N.A. District 15 Director, Z.B. Falcons Nest 80, and she volunteered for Hospice. Virginia enjoyed making Faberge Eggs, weaving, crafts, cooking, baking, traveling, and was a seamstress. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, April 16, 2012, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W. Grace St., South Bend, IN 46619; or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. Condolences may be made for the family at www.sjfh.net.

Visitation will be 2-7 pm today, April 16, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Tuesday, April 17, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church.
