Gaston P. Maes, 77, of 609 W. 8th Street, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital. He had been ill for two days. He was born in Zaffelare, Belgium, on April 2, 1895, and came to Mishawaka from that city 61 years ago. He married Christine DeSmet in Mishawaka, and she died in January, 1962. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rudolph DeCocker and Mrs. Arthur Hutsebout of Mishawaka, two brothers, Frank and Domien Maes of Mishawaka, a sister, Mrs. Morris Dhoore of Kenneth City, Fla., three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday, all day Sunday and until services Monday in the DeVoss Funeral Chapel, where services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday. Rev. Stephen Cvaniga, pastor of St. Bavo's Church, will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Sunday in the funeral chapel. Mr. Maes retired in 1960 from Uniroyal Inc. after 44 years of employment.
