Anita S. Mesko
Nov. 06, 1942 - Mar. 27, 2017
CASSOPOLIS - Anita Sue (Leodler) Mesko was born on November 6, 1942 in Seattle, Washington, and she departed for her heavenly home on Monday, March 27, 2017, in the peace and comfort of her family. She spent her years prior to high school graduation in Ovid, Michigan, an agricultural community northeast of Lansing. Upon graduation in June 1960, she accepted a state position in Cassopolis, Michigan. It was here that she met her future husband, Steve Mesko. They were married in February 1962. Anita's new family took her into their fold and she became an integral part of the community. Anita and Steve resided in their home on Stone Lake for fifty three years, prior to his death in 2015. They enjoyed hosting family and friends and “watching the lake.” Anita received an Associates in Applied Science degree (Business Administration) from Southwestern Michigan College in 1988. Following her retirement from Children's Services and Child Welfare in Cassopolis in March 2008, she volunteered with Cass County Helping Hands. She was an active member in the Cassopolis Area Book club and was Past President of the Cass County Audubon Society. She helped during the Cass County Fair and the Audubon Society's annual bird population count and was involved in the Dailey Church in Cassopolis. Anita's willingness to serve others was very evident in all her endeavors. Both Anita and Steve were very active and loved being outdoors. Two memorable trips were spent traveling in a truck camper throughout the Alaskan Wilderness. For many years, they camped for six weeks in the fall at the Two Hearted River in the eastern Upper Peninsula where they made many lifelong friends. They spent several winters in Florida and met many friends there. Anita loved to try out new dessert recipes at family get togethers. She also enjoyed shopping trips with her sisters, painting, learning and having new adventures, like ziplining. Anita is survived by her two sisters; Mary (Jim) Packer, Middy (Dave) Church; her brother, Tom (Chris) Leodler; her stepson, Reggie Mesko; and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a lot of caring relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ethel Leodler and a brother, Robert Leodler. Family and friends will gather Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 12 Noon in Connelly Chapel Wagner Family Funerals, 202 North Broadway Street, Cassopolis, with Pastor Doug and Diane Tindall officiating.
