SOUTH BEND - Hans "Hanny" Ditsch, age 84, residing in South Bend, Indiana passed away at 5:17 pm, Monday, November 27, 2017 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. Hanny was born on September 2, 1933 to the late Harold and Marie (Nichols) Ditsch. He grew up in River Park and graduated from John Adams High School in 1953. Hanny won second place in the Ford Motor Industrial Arts contest for his lamp made in a shape of a ship helm. He was a journeyman in Tool & Die and Metal Pattern Maker. Hanny retired from EPW after 50 years in the trades. He was a Notre Dame, Cubs and Bears fan; a member of Club 15, and American Legion Post 161. He enjoyed bowling and playing golf. For something to do, he made many wooden yard animals. Hanny is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Jerry (Lauri) Ditsch, Mike Ditsch; daughter, Jackie (Eric) Kretchmer; 10 grandchildren; eighteen grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold Jr., Loren, August and Fritz; sisters, Mary, Hazel, Martha and Virginia; and grandchildren, Joshua Fields and Heidi Ditsch. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, December 1, 2017 at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Thursday and one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.
