SOUTH BEND - Helen M. Bogunia, 79, passed away on Sunday, March 9th, in her residence. Helen was born on July 1, 1928, in South Bend, to the late Leo and Bernice (Mezykowski) Ewald. On July 20, 1946, she married Frank D. Bogunia Sr., who preceded her in death on September 29, 2007. She is survived by her children, Victoria (Irvin) Kaufman of Nappanee, Joyce (Ronald) Schramski of Lakeville, Judith (Gordon) Rowe of South Bend, Rhonda (David) Maciejewski of Peru, IN, Frank (Bev) Bogunia Jr. and Daniel (Nina) Bogunia, both of South Bend; 14 grandchildren, Nicole, Jeanne, Bill, Angie, Kevin, Kristi, Bradley, Jessica, Michael, Jon, Gary, Steve, Tracy and Ashley; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Theresa Arelt of Mishawaka, JoAnne (Ray) Cwik of Mishawaka and Esther (Ned) Enoch of Catlin, IL; and by her brother, Daniel (Lorraine) Ewald of South Bend. Helen was a custodian for the Bendix Corporation and retired from there in 1989. She enjoyed cooking for the family and playing bingo. She loved camping at Lake of the Woods with her family for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and was very devoted to her church, Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312; or to Our Lady of Hungary, 829 W. Calvert St., South Bend, IN 46613. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 12th, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 13th, in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. For those who are unable to attend the funeral liturgy, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
