NOTRE DAME - Dorothea Leona DiGirolamo, 91, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 11, 2015, at her home with her family. Dorothea was born on August 27, 1924, in South Bend, Indiana, to Leona D. Jahnke and Arnold H. Jahnke. She grew up in South Bend immersed in music and the aroma of her father's bakery. She was in the first graduating class from John Adams High School and remained continually proud of her high school music award. Adventure was ever-present in her life, from navigating narrows streams in the wilds of Canada, to Hawaii, Tahiti, New Zealand, and the Antarctic. In all, she visited 33 countries in her lifetime. Surviving Dorothea are her loving husband, Joseph DiGirolamo of 67 years; her daughter, Jan Di Girolamo; and son, Joel A. DiGirolamo. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her name to the charity of your choice . Visitation will be Monday, December 14, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. MISHAWAKA - Dorothea and Joseph DiGirolamo of Mishawaka are celebrating their 60th anniversary with a Hawaiian cruise. Joseph DiGirolamo and Dorothea Jahnke married Nov. 27, 1948, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South Bend. They have two children, Jan DiGirolamo of North Riverside, Ill., and Joel of Lexington, Ky. They also have five grandchildren. Mr. DiGirolamo retired from CTS Corp., Elkhart. Mrs. DiGirolamo is also retired. They have lived in Mishawaka most of their lives.
