Florian "Gene" Pawlak

SOUTH BEND - Gene Pawlak, 86, residing in South Bend, IN, passed away Tuesday morning in his home. He worked for Bendix Corporation for many years, then at University of Notre Dame in the Lobund Lab, and lastly at AM General before retiring. Gene was born on November 7, 1925 in South Bend, IN to the late George and Tillie Lutomski Pawlak. On October 8, 1949 in LaPorte, IN he married Veronica J. (Kleca) Pawlak who survives. Next week they would have celebrated 63 years of marriage. Along with his loving wife, Veronica, Gene is survived by two daughters, Linda (Barry) Johnson of Raleigh, NC and Gloria (Mike) Dale of South Bend; three grandchildren, David Johnson, Jennifer Johnson and Allison Dale; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Madilyn and Isabella; and one sister, Valeria Harlozinski of South Bend. One brother, Walter Pawlak, and a sister, Genevieve Pawlak preceded him in death. Gene was a member of St. Anthony's Church. He was an avid golfer and collector of beer memorabilia. Until recently he worked the NYT crossword puzzle daily, in ink! Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Saturday, October 6, 2012 at St. Anthony dePadua Catholic Church, 2120 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend. Graveside services and burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Friday in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. The family wishes to thank the "angels" from Hospice for their loving care and Gene and Veronica's neighbors who were there to help when needed. Contributions in memory of Gene may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637.
