SOUTH BEND - Alfred J. "Fritz" Kromkowski, 88, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 9, 2007, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Mr. Kromkowski was born July 19, 1919, in South Bend, to John and Catherine (Cziernak) Kromkowski. Alfred retired in 1984 from Stanley Enterprises as a supervisor after 20 years of service. On August 31, 1940, Alfred married Phyllis G. Baranowski, who survives. Surviving with his wife Phyllis are a special niece, Betty (Russell) Ludwig and their children, Brandon (Jenny), Joel and Amber Ludwig, and many nieces and nephews. Sisters, Blanche Bucznski, Mary Derda, Harriet Zdral, Victoria Kromkowski and brothers, Stanley, Aloysius, Bert and Harry Kromkowski all preceded him in death. Mr. Kromkowski was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, M.R. Falcons Nest # 4, a WWII Army Veteran, having received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and four Battle Stars. There will be no visitation. Private funeral services will be at a later date.
