SOUTH BEND - Ruth M. (Lauer) O'Brien, 83, passed away at 5:45 am surrounded by her family in the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ruth was born December 14, 1929, in Fort Wayne, to the late John and Catherine (Stouder) Lauer. On November 27, 1948, in South Bend, Ruth married Robert J. O'Brien Sr., who preceded her in death along with a son, Robert J. O'Brien Jr.; and her brother, Richard Lauer; and sisters, Alice Nabicht, Dorothy Palmer. Survivors of Ruth include her children, Patricia A. (Kenneth) Conard of South Bend, Ruth M. (David) Geraghty of South Bend, Michael P. (Debra) O'Brien of South Bend, James E. (Pam) O'Brien of South Bend & John A. (Susan) O'Brien of South Bend; 18 grandchildren & 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Louise Lauer of South Bend. Ruth was a parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Matthew Catholic Church; her favorite TV show was the Lawrence Welk Show, and the Chicago Cubs was her favorite team. Ruth enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, bridge and euchre, and she took pride in her flowers and lawn. Ruth's family was her life; she was very active in her children's & grandchildren's lives. Visitation for Ruth will be 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 8, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 E. Ireland Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am in the Cathedral of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at the Chapel Hill Cemetery. South Bend Tribune; February 7, 2013
