GRANGER - Edward M. Szalewski, 84, passed away at 4:10 pm, Saturday, November 29, 2014 in the Hearth at Juday Creek. Edward was born May 26, 1930 in South Bend, to the late Edward and Josephine (Chebelski) Szalewski. On January 3, 1953 in South Bend, Edward married Theresa (Futa) Szalewski who preceded him in death on September 24, 2009. Edward is also preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Manges. Survivors include sons, Tom (Luann) Szalewski, and Stephen (Christine) Szalewski; daughter, Kathy Wallis; grandchildren, Zachary, Grant, Rachel, and Shae; and sisters, Marie Nichols and Janet Grabarek. Edward was proud of his service in the United States Navy on the Battleship John R. Pierce during the Korean War and enjoyed sharing his experiences of his time in service from 1951 to 1955. He was employed and retired from Curtis Products. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and The North American Fishing Club. Edward loved fishing and boating in St. Joseph, MI. He spent many years managing and coaching Little League baseball at Maurice Matthys Park. Edward was a very active member in the local community which led him to campaign for County Commissioner. The family would like to thank The Hearth at Juday Creek for their exceptional care and service. Visitation is 2-8 pm, Wednesday, December 3, 2014 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 2 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may go to Harbor Light Hospice, 1608 E. Day Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545, and Alzheimer's & Dementia Services, 922 E.
