Karen Kay Bauer
March 7, 1961 - April 15, 2023
Karen Kay Kucharski, 62, of South Bend, IN., passed away at 6:24 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Raclin House Center for Hospice in Mishawaka, IN after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Karen was born on March 7, 1961, in South Bend to Robert and Dorothy (Berkheiser) Bauer. On November 12, 1988, Karen married Tom Kucharski, who proceeded her in death. Karen is survived by her two sisters; Kathy (Brian) Wonderly and Kim (John) Wilson all of Mishawaka and her sister in law Janis Bauer, also of Mishawaka, as well as nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers; Douglas Bauer and Robert Bauer and two nephews; Justin Bauer and Christopher Bauer. Karen was a great baker and cookie maker extraordinaire, with her specialty being Buckeyes. She loved to make people feel loved by baking for them and would show up at work or at family Christmas with a large variety of cookies to share. Karen worked many years in the retail and restaurant business, and she loved her customers and enjoyed getting to know them. Her favorite terms of endearment for them, and most everyone else she would talk to, were sweetie, honey, and baby. Her biggest love in life though, besides her husband and family, were her fur babies. They brought her extreme joy, and she was proud to call herself a fur mom. Cremation will take place with a memorial service for Karen being held on Friday, April 21 at 11:30 am at the Palmer Funeral Home - Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 am with the memorial service following. Pastor Stan Dudka will officiate the services. Karen will be laid to rest at Southlawn Cemetery.
