ARNOLD GUBI

MISHAWAKA -- Arnold Gubi, 80, of Birchwood Drive, died Saturday (July 29, 2006) at home following an illness. He was born Jan. 22, 1926, in South Bend to Frank and Victoria (Bokor) Gubi. He married Laura J. Miller on Nov. 25, 1944, in South Bend. She survives, along with three daughters, Deborah (Mike) Williams of Buchanan, Mich., and Dawn (Kevin) Annis and Wendy (Jack) Singleton, both of South Bend; three sons, Craig (Joyce) Gubi of Elkhart, Gary (Debbie) Gubi of Niles, Mich., and Glenn (Cheri) Gubi of South Bend; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elvira Nemeth of South Bend; and one brother, David (Betty) Gubi of South Bend. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Caroline Steenbeke and Irma Brenneman; and two brothers, Julius and Steven Gubi. There will be no visitation or service. Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Gubi was employed as a salesman with Michiana Wholesale, retiring in 1991. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army during World War II and was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, earning a Purple Heart. He was a member of VFW Post 360, the DAV of Elkhart and Moose Lodge 560. Mr. Gubi enjoyed bowling, football, softball, golf and crafts at Borkholder's. He was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame fan and was proud of his heritage and his family.
