South Bend - Leonard (Lenny) S. Prentkowski, 88, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Sanctuary of St. Paul’s. Lenny was born April 24, 1930 in South Bend, to the late William and Bernice (Wisniewski) Prentkowski. On November 14, 1953 in South Bend Lenny married the love of his life Margaret Tarr, she preceded him in death on October 10, 2015. Lenny was also preceded in death by son, David Prentkowski; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Chelminiak; and brother, Harry. Survivors of Lenny include, his daughters, Cindy (Ron) Glon of South Bend, Sue (Jim) Alt of Denver, CO, and Ann (Larry) Ketola of Amasa, MI, daughter-in-law, Wanda Prentkowski of South Bend; grandchildren, Justin (Kelly) Glon, Amber (Jarett) Gilpin, Brianne Glon, Mara (Matt) Kaiser, Erica (Tyler) Kelsey, Andra (Nick) Kramer, Nick Prentkowski, Collins (Lani) Alt, Jennifer (Tom) Alt. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Lilly, Addy, Emmy, Isla, Kinlee, Harlan, Ellis, Sullivan, Gus, Theo, Silas, Ryan, Wesley, Johann, Seneca, and two on the way; sisters-in-law, Rita Tarr and Sharon Tarr, nephew, John Romano, and niece, Annette Romano. Lenny honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a Building Engineer with the South Bend School Corporation and retired after 36 years. Lenny was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church where he was an usher, and a member of the Harvest House. Lenny was also a bartender for the St. Adalbert’s Heritage Center, and a coach for St. Adalbert School. He was a member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society, VFW 9820, and the American Legion Post #357. Visitation for Lenny will be held 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Thursday, December 6, 2018 at ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. with a Rosary to be said at 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W. Grace St., South Bend, IN 46619, the American Heart Association, 6100 W. 96th St., Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN, 46278 or the American Cancer Society, 130 Red Coach Dr., Mishawaka, IN 46545.
