SOUTH BEND - Gertrude C. Shull, 89 of South Bend, IN went peacefully to be with the Lord at 6:50 a.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Healthwin Specialized Care, South Bend. She was born on May 5, 1927 in South Bend, IN to the late Joseph and Carrie (Wegenka) Napieralski.

Mrs. Shull is survived by five daughters, Roberta (David) Anderson of South Bend, IN, Venita R. Smith of Mishawaka, IN, Dorothee (Daniel) Rupert of South Bend, IN. Silvie (Scott) Meuser of Rockford, MI and Trudy Shull of Mishawaka, IN; three sons, Earl D. Shull, Jr. of Mishawaka, IN, Roger (Brenda) Shull of South Bend, IN and George H. (Wendy) Shull of Mishawaka, IN; nine grandchildren, Travis, Charlye, Lindsey, Jonathan, Mandy, Ryan, Jason, Anthony and Nichole; brother, John (Sandra) Napieralski of South Bend, IN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen Laufler and Marylou Krempec and three brothers, Edward, Al and Leo Napieralski.

Mrs. Shull was a lifelong resident. She was a housewife and mother to five daughters and three sons and traveled extensively with the children's father while he was in the Air Force for twenty years. She retired in 1989 from the University of Notre Dame. Mrs. Shull enjoyed family gatherings, singing and animals. She loved to walk and usually walked everywhere. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
