Margurite "Meg" L. De Winter, age 86, of Mishawaka passed away Saturday morning, October 15, 2005 shortly after being admitted to Hospice House in South Bend. Meg was born November 2, 1918 in South Bend, a daughter of the late Arlo and Leona (Williams) Brown. She grew up in Mishawaka where she graduated from Mishawaka High School. Meg then went to work for a short time at Ball Band. While roller skating she met her future husband, August J. De Winter. The couple married in St. Joseph Catholic Church on September 4, 1937 and they made their home in Mishawaka. Meg was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, knitting and flower gardening. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Rosary Society, Daughters of Isabella, and the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Meg volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka.Augie and Meg enjoyed camping and traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. They wintered for many years in Eufaula, Alabama.Meg's family was an important part of her life. They include her sons, Terry (Kay) DeWinter of Clarksville, Arkansas and Mike (Anne) DeWinter of Mishawaka; a sister, Ruth (Ken) Welkie of Wanatah, Indiana; four grandchildren, Aaron (Merri) DeWinter, Bob (Denise) DeWinter, Duane (Melissa) DeWinter and Randy (Virginia) DeWinter; fifteen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Augie in 2003; and by two brothers, Lester and Glenn Brown.
Friends may spend time with Meg's family today (Monday) from 4 to 8 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals and Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka where the rosary will be prayed at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Hospice House (Center for Hospice and Palliative Care) or the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.

Survivors include two sons, Terry of Arkansas and Mike of Mishawaka; and a sister, Ruth Welkie of Wanatah. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Thallemer, Goethals and Wells Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 4:30 p.m.
