De Winter, 86, o f West Third Street, died Wednesday in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka.Survivors include his wife, Margurite L.; and two sons, Terry of Arkansas and Mike of Mishawaka.Services will be at 10 a.m.Monday in St.Joseph Catholic Church.Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m.Sunday in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral home, where a rosary will be said at 2:30 p.m.

August J.De Winter, 86, of Mishawaka, Ind., died suddenly on Wednesday, March 19. He was born Jan.3, 1917, in Mishawaka, a son of the late Ceaser and Mathilda (Verhaegen) DeWinter. Augie grew up in Mishawaka and on Sept.4, 1937, he married the former Margurite Brown. He worked at the Oliver Corporation until leaving to serve his country in the U.S.Army during World War II. He later worked for Studebaker and retired from Portage Oil after many years there. Augie was a longtime member of St.Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, BK Club and the Eagles. A favorite pastime was caring for his yard. Augie and Margurite have many fond memories of camping over the years throughout North America. Augie’s family was an important part of his life.They include his wife, Margurite; two sons, Terry (Kay) De Winter of Arkansas and Mike (Anne) DeWinter of Mishawaka;four grandchildren, Aaron, Bob, Duane and Randy De Winter;12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister-in-law, Helen De Winter. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gene, and by a sister, Augusta Steenbeke. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m.
Sunday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be at 2:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am.Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Robert Yast officiating.Burial with military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
