She died at 7:38 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2006, in St. Vincent Hospital, Carmel. Born March 14, 1946, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Gene and Elizabeth Berndt Long. A 1964 graduate of Logansport High School, Abbie graduated in 1967 as a registered nurse from St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Lafayette. She had been employed as a nurse in Lafayette, Indianapolis and California before returning to Logansport. Abbie was employed by Memorial Hospital in the Arbor. A member of All Saints Catholic Church, she especially enjoyed her nieces and nephews and attending their sporting events. She also enjoyed flower arranging, wreath-making and her dog, Roxie. Surviving are her mother, Logansport; brothers and a sister-in-law, David Long and Mark and Michele Long, all of Logansport; sisters and a brother-in-law, Chris and Bill Polei and Karen Long, all of Logansport, and Lisa Brown, Brookston; nieces and nephews, Barb and John Davenport, Jeanine and Arlan Brumbaugh, Jim Long, Sarah Polei, Katie Polei, Stephanie Polei, Erin Buntain, Laura and Landon Blume, Cassie and Mark Dobbs, Rachel and Rod Hainje, Emily and Wes Anderson, Ryan Long, Molly Long, Kahla Long, Meaghan Long, Courtney Long and Patrick Long; great-nieces and great-nephews, Holly Hamilton, Derek Hamilton, Allison Hylton, Carrie Davenport, Levi Long, Dalton Long, Mason Long, Cole Hainje, Luke Hainje and Case Anderson; and sisters-in-law, Dawn Long and Jane Long, both of Logansport. Two brothers, Dennis Long and Joel Long, preceded in death. Father Michael McKinney will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Logansport. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Kroeger Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association or American Heart Association.
