SOUTH BEND - Shirley A. Klein, 76, of South Bend, IN, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018, following a battle with leukemia. Shirley was born on October 22, 1941 to the late Walter and Lillian (Otolski) Hojnacki in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles (Chuck) Klein and her brother, Richard Hojnacki. Shirley graduated in 1959 from South Bend Washington High School and then worked for Indiana University South Bend for over 50 years. On April 20, 1963, she married Charles Klein at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Shirley is survived by her two sons, Mark (Mary) Klein of Indianapolis, IN and Brian (Pam) Klein of Fort Wayne, IN; six grandchildren, Andrew, Meghan, Katie, and Annie Klein, all of Indianapolis, IN, Maddy and Jack Klein, both of Fort Wayne, IN; sisters-in-law, Suzanne Klein of South Bend, IN and Louise Hojnacki of Granger, IN; and brothers-in-law, Bennie Davis of Mishawaka and Christopher Klein of Mishawaka, IN. Shirley was a current member of Holy Family Parish and a former member of St. Casimir Parish. Shirley thoroughly enjoyed traveling, baking and entertaining, spending time with her grandchildren, and attending their activities. She looked forward to hosting her annual “Camp Grammie” event and Christmas shopping trips with her grandchildren. Her many hobbies and interests included golfing, playing cards, and reading. She cherished many lifelong friendships. Her proudest role was being a Mom and “Grammie”. She was well loved and will be dearly missed. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where the St. Casimir Married Men's Club will recite a Rosary at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 7, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Rev.
