Katherine Elizabeth Szlanfucht

Mrs. Katherine Elizabeth Szlanfucht, 98, formerly of Victory Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility, Thursday about 4:40 a.m. following an extended illness. Katherine was born in South Bend on Oct. 30, 1908 to the late Alexander and Elizabeth (Topple) Elli. On Nov. 23, 1927, she married Joseph Louis Szlanfucht who passed away on December 18,1987. She was a homemaker. A son, Joseph Richard Szlanfucht, also predeceased her on Dec. 11, 1977. Six brothers and a sister have also gone before her, Anne Behrns, Steve Elli, Joseph Elli, Alexander Elli, John J. (Agnes) Elli, all of South Bend, Henry (Ella) Elli of South Bend and Michael (Antoinette) Muellner of Granger. A daughter, Marian (Richard L.) Erickson of South Bend survives; along with 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. A Christian Rite of Burial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Anthony V. Szakaly, CSC, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the McGann Funeral Home, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road at Ironwood. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph Parish where she was a long tine member and was formerly active in the Altar and Rosary Society. South Bend Tribune 1/11/2003
