SOUTH BEND - Delores (Pozsgai) Stankiewicz, 81, of South Bend, died on Saturday, February 11, at the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in South Bend after a brief illness. Delores was born in South Bend on May 23, 1930, to Stephen and Theresa Pozsgai, who preceded her in death. On May 30, 1950, Delores was married to Benedict Stankiewicz, who preceded her in death in 1969. Delores had been employed by Associates Investments and most recently by Carlisle Nursing Home. Delores is survived by her son, Michael Stankiewicz of South Bend; her grandchild, Nicholas Stankiewicz; and her great-grandchild, Brooklyn Stankiewicz. Also surviving are three brothers, Paul Pozsgai, John (Glenda) Pozsgai and Steve (Rose) Pozsgai; along with five sisters, Mary Ann (Philip) Hansen, Erma (John) Salay, Helen Pozsgai, Barbara (Michael) Norris and Elizabeth Delchambre. Delores' sister, Katherine (Gaylord) Cooper, preceded her in death. Delores is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, Marlene Hojara and Hilde Arevalo. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2012, in the ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a memorial service will begin on at 2:00 pm. Cremation will take place with burial at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Delores may be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
