SOUTH BEND - Wasylyna "Lena" Wisniewski , 85, of U.S. 31 South, passed away at 10:15 p.m. on Monday, April 12, in the Hospice House. Mrs. Wisniewski retired from the Bremen Hospital where she was a nursing assistant for 15 years. She was born on Oct. 15, 1913, in Stuardburn, Manitoba, Canada. Lena was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Ann Shafirka; a sister, Mary Melnyk; and by two brothers, John Shafirka and William Shafirka. On Oct. 4, 1940, in Winnipeg, Canada, she married Harry Wasio, who also preceded her in death in 1961. On April 12, 1969, in South Bend, Ind., she married Chester Wisniewski , who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Dianna (Gordan) Jaronik of South Bend; a son, Donald (Barbara) Wasio of Lakeville, Ind.; and by five grandchildren, Michelle Jaronik, Marlene Jaronik, Stephen Wasio, Donald Wasio, Jr., and Ann Wasio. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 16, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the Pet Refuge.
