SOUTH BEND - Joseph Kovacs, 93, passed away at 12:42 pm Friday, January 2, 2009 in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. Joseph was born on January 6, 1915, in Budapest, Hungary to Gabor and Clara (Raymon) Kovacs. He moved to South Bend from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mr. Kovacs retired from Associates and was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and the William Penn Association. On January 29, 1955 he married the former Anna Gozdanovich. She died on August 28, 1998. Surviving are two nieces Anna (Don) Czajkowski of South Bend and Mary Bozsik of Ohio; numerous great-nieces and nephews and his friend and care taker Todd (Julie) Burget. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 am Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Memorial Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church, Our Lady of Hungary Church or the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
