Josephine H. Thews, 86 years old, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Josephine was born July 26, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Joseph and Margaret (Gronke) Chrapliwy. On August 15, 1965, Josephine married the love of her life, Curtis Thews, who passed in 2013. Left to cherish her memories are her son, Michael (Kathleen) Nemes of South Bend; grandson, Timothy Nemes; granddaughter, Sara Nielson; five great-grandchildren, Evan, Ethan, Allison, Spencer, and Emily; and step-grandchildren, Robert and Brad Raker, Laura Cihak. Josephine was a lifelong resident of Michiana. She worked alongside her husband at their Volkswagen/Porsche dealership in South Bend and Elkhart - Thews Motors. Josephine was involved in many groups. She was the president of a Fredrick Chopin choir for 15 years, a member of the Ladies Adoration Society, as well as a board member for both St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church and Central Polish American Organization. Above all, Josephine loved her cats and dogs, working in the garden, and spending time with her grandchildren. Josephine also loved watching sports - especially Notre Dame, the Cubs, White Sox, Bears, and the Packers. Private services will be held for the family. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 159 N Summit Dr, South Bend, Indiana 46619.
