Douglas Domine lived for 91 full years and touched many lives with his piercing blue eyes, infectious smile and his intense sense of justice. He could sit around a table for hours with friends and family discussing politics, philosophy and current events - and he did. But he was most proud of the family he raised with his wife of 65 years, Alice Eloise Domine. Douglas Domine was born on November 10, 1930, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to J. Paul and Mary Domine. He graduated from Kalamazoo High School in 1949, spent a year in college and was drafted to fight in the Korean Conflict. He fought in a heavy mortar division in Korea until his discharge from active duty in 1953. He survived Korea, but he lost in the battle with COVID on June 5, 2022. Upon his return from Korea, Douglas married Alice Norman on November 25, 1953. He went back to college after his discharge from active duty using the G.I. Bill and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1956 from Western Michigan University. He worked in the international accounting division of the Clark Equipment Company in Buchanan, Michigan for thirty years. Douglas always loved to camp, to travel, he loved to dance, loved music, and he played the trumpet and banjo. He told stories about seeing Duke Ellington perform when he was a teenager and seeing Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan perform when he was a grown man. He loved life and every experience life presented. Douglas is survived by his two children, daughter Deborah Domine and her husband, Bruce Cashbaugh, of Goshen, Indiana and son Douglas Domine, Jr. and his wife Connie Domine of Traverse City, Michigan, his sister, Paula Domine, of Portland, Oregon, and six grandchildren, Jason Domine (Justine) of Chicago, Illinois, Brian Domine (Robin) of Traverse City, Michigan, Dr. Jasmine Droppers (Lloyd) of Nova Scotia, Canada, Brooks Cashbaugh (Laura Meyer) of Iowa City, Iowa, Dylan Cashbaugh (Keetin Marchi) of Los Angeles, California and Jessica Parker (London) of Traverse City, Michigan. He liked to greet his oldest granddaughter by asking “what’s up Doc?” He was proud of the accomplishments of each of his grandchildren and loved to talk about them. He was also proud of his five great-grandchildren, who also survive his passing. Douglas was preceded in death by the love of his life and favorite dancing partner, Alice Domine, his brother Edward Domine and his parents. The loss of Douglas is mourned by his family. A private memorial will be held. Friends who know him can donate to a political cause they know Douglas would support, they can plant a tree, or donate to the Alzheimer’s Association.
