SOUTH BEND - Surviving are daughter, Lynn (Steve); grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Warner; sisters, Alice (Gene) Szymczak, Wanda Leets and Evelyn Herman; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation 2-8 pm Fri., Aug. 19, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am on Sat., Aug. 20, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.

Thaddeus "Ted" Szymczyk Sr.

SOUTH BEND - Thaddeus "Ted" F. Szymczyk Sr., 76, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2011, after an automobile accident. Ted was born on December 21, 1934, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Mary (Misztal) Szymczyk. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Henry; sisters, JoAnn Stuglik and Helen Dybala; and son, Ted Jr. On November 7, 1959, in Our Lady of Hungry Catholic Church, South Bend, Ted married the former Betty Switalski, who preceded him in death on July 9, 2009. Surviving Ted is his daughter, Lynn (Steve) Warner of Anderson, IN; two grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan Warner of Anderson, IN; three sisters, Alice (Gene) Szymczak of South Bend, Wanda Leets of Dowagiac, MI and Evelyn Herman of South Bend; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Ted graduated from South Bend Catholic High School and attended Indiana State University and received his Associates Degree in Accounting from South Bend College of Commerce. He started his apprenticeship at Studebakers in skilled trades as a steamfitter. Ted retired in 1996 from A.M. General with 30 years in the skilled trades department as a pipefitter. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for four years as a Flight Engineer on the B-50 during the Korean War. Ted was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church and a member of PNA, UAW Local #5 and American Legion Post 357. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren and enjoyed sharing his childhood stories with them. He liked taking small trips with his wife Betty of 49 1/2 years. Ted loved listening to the Polka Party every Sunday. Ted was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Notre Dame, I.U., Chicago Cubs and Washington High School. He also loved a good joke. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2120 Huron St., South Bend, IN 46619. Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday, August 19, 2011, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 pm.
