SOUTH BEND - Geraldine J. Schmanski, 85, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away Friday, September 4, 2009, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. She was born July 24, 1924, in South Bend, to Alex and Rose (Chudzicki) Golichowski. She had been employed with Monarch and Swank Cleaners for 15 years and previously with the former Bendix Corporation for 12 years. On June 25, 1948, Geraldine married Raymond Schmanski, who preceded her in death in 1983. Surviving are her son, Thomas Schmanski of South Bend; daughter-in-law, Anna Schmanski of South Bend; grandchildren, Michael and Nicholas (Walida) Schmanski of South Bend; great-grandchildren, Michael Lance and Maggie Lynn; sisters, Ruth (Clem) Holewczynski, Lorraine Nowak and Rosemary (Bob) Bella, all of South Bend; and a brother, Don (Dorothy) Golichowski of South Bend. Geraldine was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Z.B. Falcons. She was very proud of her children and loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 9, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
