Alice D. Fanti
Feb. 6, 1922 - Apr. 23, 2015
MISHAWAKA - Alice D. Fanti, 93, passed away in the surrounding and comfort of her own home on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Alice was born on February 6, 1922, to the late John and Martha (Turczynski) Sopczynski and was a lifelong area resident. On June 12 1945, she married her beloved husband, Primo J. Fanti at St Adalbert's Church in South Bend. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Primo on December 11, 1995, her cherished daughter, Carolyn who passed away of childhood leukemia; two brothers, Benedict "Ben" and John "Jackie" Sopczynski; and three sisters, Bernice Lesniewicz, Evelyn Grabarek and Theresa Sopczynski. She is survived by her son, Mitchell J. (Kathy) Fanti of Granger, IN; four grandchildren, Michael Fanti, Megan Fanti, Stephanie (Whit) Moxley, and Tessa Davis; and five great grandchildren; Makenna, Riley, Teriana, Joshua, and "DJ". Alice worked for the Studebaker Corporation and then retired from Burcliff Industries in 1984. She was parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka and a member of the Marion Society, De Amicis Club and the Mishawaka and Penn Women's Club. Alice loved her family with all her heart and soul; husband, children, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid and faithful Notre Dame sports fan, especially football and woman's basketball. Alice loved to dance, especially the polka, and if you were lucky enough to dance around the room with her it was better than a roller coaster ride. She enjoyed gardening and had a special gift in raising beautiful rose bushes that blossomed into a rainbow of radiant colors (her special connection to the Blessed Virgin). She was a devoted member of her church, and through her love of Our Lord and the Blessed Mother, sustained a deep faith throughout her life. Her Rosary was her constant companion. Alice will forever be remembered for her love and zest for life; kindness and care for others; and her willingness to put everyone else's needs before her own. Visitation for Alice will be Sunday, April 26, 2015, from 2PM to 6PM in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St, Mishawaka, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM Monday, April 27, 2015, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S Mill St, Mishawaka with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. The family would like to give a special thanks to the Center of Hospice and their caregivers for their exceptional service and kindness. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Foundation Supporting Center for Hospice Care: South Bend-Elkhart-Plymouth, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
