Rose L. Totten, 86, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and friend went to her heavenly home from her earthly home on March 10, 2007 surrounded by her family. Rose was born as the 7th child to Flora and Louis Applegate in Bardstown, KY. Her parents and siblings have preceded her in death. An infant daughter, Anna E. Totten, also preceded her in death. On April 12, 1941 , Rose married Paul A. Totten, her devoted and loving husband, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Pam Sibal of South Bend, and Arlene (Karl) Napper of Niles; three sons, Charlie (Kyong) Totten of Michigan City, Sam (Char) Totten of LaPorte, and Ken Totten of Niles. Rose is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Krys (Mark) Slepian, Tom (Joy) Totten, Lisa (Paul) Panozzo, Pauline Dahlke, Eric (Crissie) Napper, Penny Rosenfeld, Dale Redman, Sami (Jeremy) Miller, Andrew Sechrist, and Jennifer, William and Kevin Sibal; and 13 great grandchildren, Chloe, Alex, Shane, Olivia, Lauren, Paulie, Hunter, Elise, Sarah, Sydney, Evan, Kyle, and Ashley. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Matthew (Elizabeth) Totten and sisters-in-law, Annabelle Applegate and Mary Applegate, and many nieces and nephews. Rose was employed for 21 years at K-Mart South, retiring in 1985, where she was affectionately known as "Rose from Hose." She belonged to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Rosary Society and led the rosary before mass for many years. She worked hard all of her life. Her greatest joy was being with her family. Rose was a warm smile and a bright light as she lived her life practicing the true goodness and love in her heart. She was a beautiful example of how to live life with faith, love, forgiveness, and peace. Our heartfelt thanks go to Dr. Sucharetza, all the caring nurses and other staff at Blackthorn Dialysis Center who tended to her needs. We also thank The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Father Tom King, Brother Dennis and special friends, Jean and Jim Shaw The family will receive friends at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2007 where a rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13th at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 63568 U.S. 31-South, South Bend. Interment will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of Rose to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 63568 U.S. 31 South, South Bend, IN 46614, National Kidney Foundation, 911 E. 86th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46240, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Rose L. Totten, 86, South Bend, died Saturday, March 10, 2007. Born in Bardstown, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Flora and Louis Applegate. She retired after 21 years of employment with K-Mart and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church Rosary Society in South Bend, where she led the rosary before Mass for many years. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anna E. Totten, and her six siblings.Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Paul A. Totten; two daughters, Pam Sibal of South Bend and Arlene Napper of Niles, Mich.; three sons, Charlie Totten of Michigan City, Sam Totten of LaPorte and Ken Totten of Niles, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation: Monday, March 12, 5 to 8 p.m. at Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel in South Bend. Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, March 13, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with interment at Southlawn Cemetery.
