SOUTH BEND - Wilbur W. Mell Jr., 91, passed away at 8:45 p.m. Sunday in the Golden Living Center-Fountainview. Wilbur was born on January 7, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Wilbur W. and Adelia Pearl (Blue) Sr. In addition to his parents, Wilbur was also preceded in death by a son, Steven Mell, and brother, Robert Mell. On December 29, 1945, in South Bend, Wilbur married Margaret (Kauffman); they enjoyed 66 years of wonderful marriage. She survives along with daughter, Sandra (Jerry) Gibbeny of Angola, IN; sons, Arthur (Martha) Mell of Mishawaka and Douglas Mell of Mishawaka; three granddaughters, two step-grandsons and five great-grandchildren; and by his sister, Winifred Vandbossche of South Bend. Wilbur was enlisted for three years and eight months and also served overseas while serving his country in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. A funeral service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. today, March 2, 2011, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where family and friends may visit one hour prior.
