Susan Kiang, 102, resident of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. She was born on February 28, 1919 in Changsha, China, to the late Chin Hwa and Ji Chin (Yen) Yang. Susan came to the United States in 1956, and then on August 29, 1959, she married John Kiang, who preceded her in death on June 7, 2003. Susan is survived by her daughter, Huipang Jiang of Ann Arbor, MI; sons, Xusheng Jiang of Boston, MA, and Shaosheng Jiang of South Bend, IN; twelve grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Susan was preceded in death by her son, Lusheng Jiang, as well as several brothers and sisters. Susan graduated from National Chengchi University before obtaining her Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Northern Colorado. She dedicated her time to Chinese painting and had her artwork exhibited in various galleries. Susan was a member of the Chinese Cultural Association, the Chinese Women Artist Association, and the Gary Art Center. She enjoyed painting, gardening, reading, playing Mahjong, and was an excellent cook. After retiring, Susan and her husband, John, spent their time travelling, and enjoyed taking cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska. Funeral services for Susan will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Rd., South Bend, IN.
